I think The Bull and Swan is going to be very popular this summer having transformed their awkward rear car park into a lovely new Kitchen Garden complete with Pizza Potting Shed. Fresh sourdough pizzas will be served from the shed every Thursday and Friday from 6pm and every Saturday from midday ’til 9pm. There’s also a new Kitchen Garden menu available, using fresh produce from the veg beds, which have been lovingly erected over the winter months; head chef, Phil Kent, has always produced dishes using seasonal and local produce but this takes local to a new level! There are lots of tempting dishes on offer, including a selection of ‘bites’ such as courgette fritters with mint aioli, ox cheek nachos and Mr Kent’s runny scotch egg, or maybe you’d like to start your meal with chicken liver parfait served with rhubarb and toasted rye, crab cakes with shredded fennel, or ham hock with gooseberry jam? Imaginative salad and veggie dishes feature on the menu, including a fresh garden pea, broad bean and mint risotto or prawn and avocado salad with butter lettuce, almonds and dill, or perhaps you’re after something slightly more indulgent like the truffle and lobster mac and cheese, or pork chop served with creamed black pudding mash, followed by treacle tart served with salted caramel ice cream or peach and almond frangipane. It’s all sounding a bit delicious and I can’t wait to go and try it out.
