Head out of the city and into the country for a hearty meal at The Millstone, Barnack. Why not take a stroll round the nearby Hills and Hollows, then warm up and refuel in the recently refurbished village pub, which prides itself on it’s relaxed and friendly atmosphere and food that will put a smile on your face. Pub classics, like pies, burgers and gammon and chips are served alongside more refined dishes like the pan-fried halloumi starter with orange, beetroot and balsamic syrup (£6.50); king scallops with cauliflower and vanilla puree, black pudding croutons, pancetta and pea sauce (£7.95) or the pan-fried fillet of halibut main, served with sauteed cabbage, smoked bacon, potato rosti and a creamy tarragon sauce (£19.95). I can personally recommend the slow-cooked baby back ribs, served with crispy chips, coleslaw, salad and a delicious barbecue sauce (£15.95).
The burger menu is definitely worth exploring, with exciting offerings such as The Italian, served with mozzarella, sun-dried tomatoes and pesto mayonnaise; The Mexican, with jalapenos, cheddar cheese and guacamole or my favourite, The Gourmet Butterflied Chicken, a chicken burger served with sweet chilli sauce and a lemon and pepper mayonnaise.
